Janey Katz, a self taught artist, has always looked at a junk yard as an art supply store! Parts of cars and other cast off metal objects reside outside her New Mexico studio, waiting to be transformed into sculpture.
Each of her signed and dated critters is cut from an old truck hood or roof. The colors are original, applied in Detroit between 15 and 50 years ago, and if you turn one over you will find the year and make of the vehicle it was cut from written on its belly. No two are alike, and being as they come from the "HOOD", they each have an "attitude" all their own.
